{"id":1051,"date":"2018-06-10T21:05:26","date_gmt":"2018-06-10T20:05:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/globalfraudforensics.com\/fraudxpose\/?p=1051"},"modified":"2018-06-12T11:20:41","modified_gmt":"2018-06-12T10:20:41","slug":"nine-people-to-be-sentenced-following-action-fraud-reports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/globalfraudforensics.com\/fraudxpose\/nine-people-to-be-sentenced-following-action-fraud-reports\/","title":{"rendered":"Nine people to be sentenced following Action Fraud reports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/globalfraudforensics.com\/fraudxpose\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/UK-Court_0.jpg?fit=600%2C320&ssl=1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/globalfraudforensics.com\/fraudxpose\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/UK-Court_0.jpg?fit=600%2C320&ssl=1\" width=\"600\" height=\"320\" alt=\"UK-Court_0\" style=\"display:inline-block\" \/><\/a> <\/p><p><strong>Nine people are to be sentenced after an investigation by Essex Police for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.actionfraud.police.uk\/fraud-az-olympic-scam\">ticket fraud<\/a>\u00a0involving 309 victims who were conned out of high profile sporting tickets.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 2014 and 2015 there were over 550 complaints to Action Fraud from people who had purchased tickets to events but never received them or a refund.<\/p>\n<p>In total the\u00a0<strong>309 victims<\/strong>\u00a0lost in excess of\u00a0<strong>\u00a3360,000<\/strong>\u00a0trying to buy tickets to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.actionfraud.police.uk\/news\/rugby-world-cup-2015-fans-urged-to-buy-tickets-from-official-sources-sept14\"><strong>Rugby World Cup 2015<\/strong><\/a>, Formula One and the Mayweather versus Pacquiao fight.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Analysing reports\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Action Fraud reports were\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.actionfraud.police.uk\/about-us\/the-national-fraud-intelligence-bureau-process\"><strong>assessed and analysed<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0by experts within the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.actionfraud.police.uk\/about-us\/who-is-national-fraud-intelligence-bureau\"><strong>National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB)<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0who passed them onto Essex Police.<\/p>\n<p>The NFIB also sent the City of London Police\u2019s Disruptions Team the evidence they needed to take a fake website selling Rugby World Cup 2015 tickets offline, which they did successfully. The fraudsters changed hosts and got it up and running again, but the City of London Police which\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.actionfraud.police.uk\/action-fraud-moves-from-national-fraud-authority-to-city-of-london-police-apr14\"><strong>runs Action Fraud<\/strong><\/a>, disrupted it again preventing further victims.<\/p>\n<p>Essex Police then started an investigation into three online companies called \u2018Touchline Tickets\u2019, \u2018Getsporting\u2019 and \u2018Green Pitch Tickets\u2019, which operated between early 2014 and April 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The websites investigated were often appearing at the top of search engines, seemed authentic and gave discounts to people who opted for bank transfers, unaware this was helping to pay the fraudsters more quickly.<\/p>\n<p>The most attractive event was the Rugby World Cup with more than \u00a3188,000 being paid for tickets that were never received.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sentencing\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Following Essex Police\u2019s investigation two men were found guilty of money laundering following a two and a half week trial at Chelmsford Crown Court last month. A further seven people who were involved in the ticket fraud are due to be sentenced in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Senior Investigating officer, DCI Lee Morton, of Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate\u2019s Serious Economic Crime Unit, said: \u201cThis has been a complex investigation involving hundreds of victims and even more movements of money that was obtained fraudulently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe victims were conned into handing over their hard earned cash to buy tickets to prestigious events that never existed.
