{"id":2397,"date":"2019-04-23T23:21:22","date_gmt":"2019-04-23T22:21:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/globalfraudforensics.com\/fraudxpose\/?p=2397"},"modified":"2019-04-23T18:25:35","modified_gmt":"2019-04-23T17:25:35","slug":"n-power-fraudsters-jailed-for-impersonation-identity-theft","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/globalfraudforensics.com\/fraudxpose\/n-power-fraudsters-jailed-for-impersonation-identity-theft\/","title":{"rendered":"N-Power: Fraudsters Jailed For Impersonation, Identity Theft"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has sentenced Sata Owugha Clinton and Bolounmubofa Blessing Soroh to one-year imprisonment for impersonation and using the identity of a petitioner to enroll in the \u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.concisenews.global\/tag\/n-power\">N-Power<\/a>\u00a0Social Welfare Scheme.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The duo got into trouble when they used the name and identity of Lovedy Chiamaka Uzor to enroll in the welfare scheme and in the process obtained the sum of N360,000.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">They were able to open a bank account in the name of Uzor because she also applied for the scheme, but stopped her application mid-way, fearing that the <a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.concisenews.global\/tag\/N-power\">scheme<\/a> may be a scam.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The convicts capitalized on this and completed the enrolment processes in the victim\u2019s name. The victim got wind of their fraudulent activities when she contacted her bank and found out that the convicts were already receiving payments from the scheme in her name.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The charge reads: \u201cThat you, Sata Owugha Clinton and Bolounmubofa Blessing Soroh on or about the 10th of October, 2017 at Zenith Bank within the Jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did fraudulently impersonate one Loveday Chiamaka Uzor with intent to gain advantage for yourselves thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 22(3) (a) of the Cybercrimes prohibition, Prevention Act 2015 and punishable under Section 22(4) of the same Act.\u201d They pleaded \u201cguilty\u201d to the charge.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In view of their pleas, prosecuting counsel, Alao Rashidat, prayed the court to sentence the defendants for the offence of impersonation accordingly as contained in the Cybercrimes Prohibition, Prevention Act.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The presiding Judge, Justice I.M.
