{"id":8024,"date":"2021-10-09T04:01:16","date_gmt":"2021-10-09T03:01:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/globalfraudforensics.com\/fraudxpose\/?p=8024"},"modified":"2021-10-09T04:01:21","modified_gmt":"2021-10-09T03:01:21","slug":"35-nigerians-arrested-in-us-for-117-million-romance-scam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/globalfraudforensics.com\/fraudxpose\/35-nigerians-arrested-in-us-for-117-million-romance-scam\/","title":{"rendered":"35 Nigerians Arrested In US For $117 Million Romance Scam"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>FBI Arrests 35 Nigerians In Texas For $117million Fraud<br>They were accused of grossly conducting romance schemes to defraud and steal from unsuspecting older American adults.<\/p><p>Thirty-five Nigerians have been arrested in North Texas by the United States\u2019 Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, for involvement in a fraud worth $117million.<\/p><p>The suspects, who have allegedly defrauded over 100 people nationwide, would face indictment for money laundering and wire scam.<\/p><p>They were accused of grossly conducting romance schemes to defraud and steal from unsuspecting older American adults.<\/p><p>It was learnt that the suspects used fake names on dating sites to prey on their targets including widowed and divorced.<\/p><p>These victims were made to build trust with the scammers as they would pose interest by sharing a fake snivel story and then requesting a large sum of money.<\/p><p>Acting U.S. Attorney, Prerak Shah, stated at a press conference while announcing the charges against them that \u201cThese criminals rely on victims\u2019 isolation, loneliness, and sometimes their grief. The only mistake these victims make is being generous to the wrong people.\u201d<\/p><p>\u201cOnce they depleted the savings they vanished into thin air. Romance scams are often difficult to prosecute because victims are often embarrassed, feel duped, and don\u2019t want to come forward.\u201d<\/p><p>Shah encourages victims to come forward and reassures them that the scams are more common than one might think, disclosing that more than 20,000 people lost $600million in romance scams in 2020.<\/p><p>Meanwhile, eleven of the arrests were made in the Northern District of Texas while the remaining 24 were made in the Eastern District of Texas.<\/p><p>Identities of the Nigerians charged in the Northern District of Texas were;<\/p><p><strong>David Animashaun<\/strong>, 38 \u2013 arrested in DFW, charged with wire fraud conspiracy.<\/p><p><strong>Oluwalobamise Michael Moses<\/strong>, 40 \u2013 arrested in DFW, charged with wire fraud conspiracy<\/p><p><strong>Irabor Fatarr Musa<\/strong>, 51 \u2013 arrested in the Eastern District of Texas, charged by the Northern District of Texas wire fraud conspiracy, money laundering conspiracy<\/p><p><strong>Ijeoma Okoro<\/strong>, 31 \u2013 arrested in DFW, wire fraud conspiracy fraud, money laundering conspiracy<\/p><p><strong>Chukwemeka Orji<\/strong>, 36 \u2013 arrested in DFW, charged with wire fraud conspiracy, money laundering conspiracy<\/p><p><strong>Emanuel Stanley Orji<\/strong>, 35 \u2013 arrested in DFW, charged with wire fraud conspiracy<\/p><p><strong>Frederick Orji, 37<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 arrested in Dallas, charged with wire fraud conspiracy, money laundering conspiracy<\/p><p><strong>Uwadiale Esezobor, 36<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 arrested in Lubbock, charged with mail &amp; wire fraud conspiracy<\/p><p><strong>Victor Idowu, 36<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 arrested in Los Angeles, charged with mail &amp; wire fraud conspiracy<\/p><p><strong>Afeez Abiola Alao, 37<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 wire fraud conspiracy, money laundering conspiracy<\/p><p><strong>Ambrose Sunday Ohide<\/strong>, 47 \u2013 wire fraud conspiracy.<\/p><p>All of the defendants named are innocent until proven guilty.
