A civil servant has been convicted by the Borno State High Court over multiple counts of contract fraud worth N86.1 million.
Ma’aji Shettima Arfo was initially arraigned before the court for lining his pockets while serving as the General Manager of the State-owned Maiduguri Flour Mills Limited.
Between 2014 and 2020, he engaged in multiple fraud, according to the charge sheet filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
The government official used the influence of his position to repeatedly award the organisation’s contracts to Falkwat Multilinks Limited, a private company where he was a director.
The contracts covered the supply of diesel, and maize to Maiduguri Flour Mills Limited.
ICPC said his actions were in violation of Sections 12 and 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.
Justice Haruna Mshellia found Arfo guilty of four counts of the six he was charged with, and sentenced him to seven years on each count, to run concurrently.
