A man in Powai lost a huge sum of Rs 1.5 lakh after he clicked on an income tax refund message. Few days ago on receiving a message regarding his tax refund on his phone, he clicked on it.
That very moment he got directed to a mobile application which got automatically downloaded. Arup Banerjee, on suspecting foul play, deleted the message as well as the app.
But the next day he realised that money has been debited from his account as his phone was hacked.
As per a Mumbai Mirror report, the victim then called the bank and got his account blocked.
He then approached the Powai police and got a case registered on Wednesday. Banerjee, who works with a private company in Santacruz, in his police complaint stated that he received the text message when he was at work.
The Powai police are taking help of cyber experts to trace the culprit.
“He then went to the Hiranandani Branch of the bank to lodge a complaint,” said a police officer.
